We got our Corolla towed here on a Saturday morning when it wouldn’t start. The mechanic called on Monday evening stating that our fuel pump was broken and it would cost $1,300. Another 2 days later (Wednesday) they called us to say that our car key was not working to start our car and the problem was actually most likely only an issue with the sensor in the key. When we inquired about the fuel pump, they said that it was never a fuel pump issue and they had confused us with another corolla in the shop. The kept the car until Thursday evening and then charged us $550 just to make a new key and program the sensor. We got quotes from several locksmiths stating that they could have made and programmed a key for $300. In summary: Ben’s kept our car for 6 days to complete a job that could have actually been completed in 1. They misdiagnosed the error and then charged us $550 for a fix that a locksmith could have done for $200 less. We had been to Ben’s several times before and always been pleased. But I’m very disappointed this time, especially considering how much we had to pay and how long it took to resolve the issue. Unfortunately we will not be back.

Incredibly communicative and quick turnarounds. I've brought my Jeep in here a couple of times, they've always been able to get me in quickly, usually sooner than I'm ready for, and have done speedy turnarounds on my car while very thoroughly providing me with updates as to what they've found and what my options are. In my experience, they've been helpful and not pushy, honestly telling me what work needs to get done and flagging emerging issues (on my 20 year old car). They're also nice folks and have been good to chat with every time I've picked up the car.

Great experience! My 2010 Odyssey needed bumper clips to reattach the bumper and splash shield after much wear and tear. These guys generously fixed the problem at no cost. Greatly appreciate the friendliness and generosity. Will definitely be coming back for service.

Recently moved to DC and I am so happy I’ve found this place! Super friendly, and did really great work. I also like how they send email and text updates. Really happy with their work and will definitely be returning for all my car related needs!

Ben's was a breeze to work with. I needed some break work done as well as a tire rotation and alignment. Their technology is awesome in that you can track the status of the work being done on your car. It was also a quick turnaround. Dropped it off one day and it was done the next. No appointment was needed. However, I'm sure it could have been done in a day had I made one. Will definitely be going back. Great service and friendly people. They even let our pup nap on their floor while my husband waited 🙂

I just moved to the DC area and found myself in need of a nearby mechanic. I found the staff at Ben Nielsen's to be very helpful and friendly. I also liked that their initial inspection had pictures of my vehicle and videos explaining how parts of my car work so that I didn't have to try and research why they were recommending a certain repair. I would go back again and would recommend them to my friends and family.

Great team, always friendly and fast. They have do great work, always keep you posted on your car’s status and what they’re doing, and seem genuinely interested in long-term customers. Plus they don’t mind a dog joining you for pickup and drop off. A little pricey, but you get what you pay for.

Updated 06/19/2019: They offered to refund me as compensation for the wait and miscommunication. Thank you very much. Waited almost 6 hours for an oil change. Brought it in earlier thinking it would be done earlier. Name wrong several times. Called ahead of time and asked if it would be done by 3. They were apologetic but still had to pay expensive cab for friend I was supposed to pick up at 6 in Fairfax, VA.

UPDATE: I moved my review from 2 to 4 stars after I was quickly contacted and offered a $35 refund--bringing the grand total to about $130 to replace my tire. Still a little pricey, but the team at Ben Nielsen's seems genuinely interested in customer reconciliation and retention. The staff were friendly and worked quickly which is why I’m rating higher than one star. My car was towed to Ben Nielsen’s after getting a flat tire so I was basically stuck there after finding out the new tire with labor would cost over $200–for one tire. I asked for a cheaper option and was told they would look for one. The next morning I am charged $160 for one tire. I ask what tire was even put on my car and am told it’s a Goodyear assurance all season tire (definitely should have been told this before it was installed), which runs online anywhere from $55-$83. The person at the desk could not explain why they charge $115 plus labor for this tire and offered no discount, though they’re clearly overcharging. It’s a shame because I love to support local shops, but getting charged 2x or 3x what a chain will charge is just not prudent. Won’t be back. My advice—get towed elsewhere.

The absolute best service I have EVER received from an auto shop. Made an appointment. They called back and emailed me with a list of issues my car had during their inspection (there were a lot since my car was going through some tough times) and gave me an estimate on everything. And they got everything done the same day! All the staff were amazing! I came To pick up my car with my dog and the place is dog-friendly! The staff made both of us feel so welcome! Would absolutely come here again.

Staff was very friendly and got us a diagnostic report for out car very quickly. The report was thorough and explained all the work needed done to our car and why. Definitely would recommend.

I called 10st about an issue yesterday and they were able to get me in later in the afternoon. They were really helpful and helped with auto issue. I will definitely be back if I have any other issues.

It was my first time here — had a flat tire on my way out of town and they fixed it in less than an hour. The work was down quickly, professionally, and courteously. What more can you ask?! I’m not sure what was better — the work or the customer service. I will definitely use them for any future issues.

Excellent customer service & very fast turnaround. I brought my car in in the afternoon & Frank let me know they could replace the two bad tires — service completed in less than 24 hours. Also appreciated the text message updates (in addition to the phone call) to let me know the car was ready. Thank you very much!! Will be back next time my classic car needs service.

After my original post, I have since had my vehicle serviced and I still highly recommend James and his co workers. High quality work. Competetive pricing and he's such a dang nice guy how could you not like him? I wanted to get a couple other services done but he recommended against wasting my money. I will be back and you should check them out! Thanks guys Full Disclosure: I have not used 10th Street Automotive, yet. However the customer service from James was exceptional when I called. He was very funny, nice and straight forward with pricing. And his pricing was very competitive. I recently moved to the area and I will be using them in the future and hope you will too. Long time customer (since 2000?) with multiple cars. Have always been happy with quality of mechanical service and honesty of dealings, but sorely missed the excellent customer service and genuine warmth of the front office when Mark left some years back. Despite the abrasiveness of his replacement, we remained customers due to convenience and knowing that the technical crew was still the same. Now, I am thrilled to report a recent change of regime. James, the new manager is a breath of fresh air. Super friendly, well organized, and obviously customer-focused. Makes taking the car in for servicing so much more pleasant.

Went here for an oil change and had a great experience. James in particular has absolutely outstanding customer service! It took the agreed upon time and for the agreed upon price. I’ll definitely be coming back.

This shop is under new management! Like some others, I have struggled with 10th Street Auto. It is easy--VERY close for me. But there have been times in the past where I felt like the owner wasn't as attentive as he could be (charged me $8 for washer fluid, over filled my tires and then asked me what the problem was), so I would only take my car there for an oil change. Called this week and a new guy answered the phone! Very friendly, flexible, and kind. Turns out they have a new owner who bought out the business. Many of the mechanics are still the same, but the ownership/leadership will hopefully be more more understanding, flexible, and communicative for those who have struggled with this under the old management. Would encourage you to give this place another try if you were turned off by the previous management style!
